'being' 이 어떻게 쓰이는지 정리합니다.

 

Being + 형용사

위 구조는 행위나 행동에대해서 말할때 사용할수있습니다.

 Why are you being so silly?
 왜 이렇게 멍청하게 굴어?
 You are being cruel when you hurt others with your words or actions.
 딴사람한테 상처줄때 너 정말 잔인하더라

 

여기서 알아야 할것은 형용사가 사람의 기분을 나타낼때는 be의 진행형을 사용 하지않아요.
I was upset when I heard that I had failed the test.

( I was being upset when..… 가 아닙니다. 여기선 화자의 느낌, 기분을 나타내므로 진행형을 사용하지않아요.)

 

I am delighted to hear that you have won the first prize. 

네가 1등했다는 소식에 기뻐.

(마찬가지로 I am being delighted …가 아닙니다.)

Being + 과거분사

진행형을 수동태형태로 만들때 사용될수있습니다.

다시말해서 수동태 진행 형태로 만들수있습니다.                 

Father is cooking dinner. (Active)
아빠가 저녁하고있어
Dinner is being cooked by father. (Passive)
저녁이 만들어지고있어
He is repairing the roof.
지붕을 고치고있어.
The roof is being repaired.
지붕이 고쳐지고있어
I am quite sure that someone is following me. (Active)
누가 날 따라오는거 같아
I am quite sure that I am being followed. (Passive)

나 미행당하는거 같아.

 

Being 분사절

Because, as, since 절 대신에 가끔 being을 사용해서 부사분사절로 이용합니다.

이러한 구조는 보통 formal한, 인문학적인 문체에서 주로 쓰입니다.

Being late, she couldn’t watch the play.

(= Because she was late, she couldn’t watch the play.)
늦었기때문에, 연극을 볼수없었어

Being a acquintance of the Minister, I am often invited to official parties. 

(= As I am a acquintance of the Minister, I am often invited to official parties.)
minister의 지인이기때문에 공식파티에 자주 초대된다.
